Hu•mil•i•ty (noun) A modest or low view of one’s own importance. The feeling or attitude that you have no special importance that makes you better than others. The quality or state of being humble.
Humility was highly valued by many Tribal Cultures. It was important for the entire Tribe to practice humility. It helped create healthy individuals and healthy communities. It was also a key component in their worldview. Tribes believed that they were no more important than the plants and the animals. They were not separate from nature but were only a small part of it. This perspective helped them maintain a high level of respect for the natural world. How can we destroy the Earth if we are no more important and than the plants or the animals? Practicing humility, or being humble, is sometimes seen as negative, but it’s interesting to note that even today there are many very accomplished people that will highlight humility as an important ingredient to success.
